1. 입학지원 자격

지원하는 학과나 칼리지에 따라서 입학 요구사항이 조금씩 달라지기 때문에 칼리지에 직접 문의하여 알아보는 것이 제일 정확하다. 하지만 기본적으로 다음 요구사항들이 있다.

The vast majority of undergraduates are 18 years, if younger should consult the Admissions Tutors
A student who will be over 21 on commencing a course is classified as a mature student.

VCE and Applied A levels, GNVQs and BTECs
Scottish Highers and Advanced Highers

Course requirement
English language requirement

◦ GCSE Grade C or above

◦ others e.g. IELTS(7.0이상), Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (grade A)

2. 지원시기 - 지원마감시기는 다른 대학들보다 이른 10월 중순쯤 이므로 지원 준비는 미리미리 하는 것이 좋다.

3. 지원서류

다른 대학들과 마찬가지로 UCAS를 통해 지원하나 거기에 Cambridge Application Form (CAF)도 따로 써서 직접 대학으로 보내야 함. CAF에 첨부해야 할 서류들 중에는 UCAS에 첨부하였던 학교추천서, 자기소개서, 성적점수와 20 파운드 정도의 Fee가 있다.

지원하는 과 또는 칼리지에 따라 입학 요구사항이 조금씩 달라진다.

Medicine이나 Veterinary Medicine 지원자들은 BioMedical Admissions Test(BMAT)를 Law 지원자들은 National Admissions Test for Law (LNAT)를 봐야 한다. 또한 칼리지에 따라 Mathematics 지원자들은 STEP test를 봐야 하기도 한다.

Cambridge가 인정하는 시험 기관

l GCE AS/A levels

l Scottish Highers and Advanced Highers

l Welsh Baccalaureate

l Irish Leaving Certificate

l International Baccalaureate

또는 다른 국제 시험 기관도 인정이 되나 미리 각 칼리지의 튜터와 연락해 확인하도록 함

4. 지원서류 접수 후

칼리지나 과에 따라 interview, tests, written work 등을 요구당할 수 있다. (인터뷰는 12월초 정도에 general interview와 academic인터뷰가 있을 수 있으면 적게는 한 번에서 많게는 세네 번까지 받을 수 있다.)

1월초에는 학교에서 편지를 받을 수 있으며 3가지로 분류가 된다.

Typical Offer - 3 As in A-level (and usually require top grades)

Offer를 받은 후에는 reply to UCAS that you accept Cambridge ‘firmly’.

마지막으로는 offer에 충족되는 점수를 받기 위해 열심히 공부를 한다!

지원 절차

봄~여름: open day 및 여러 이벤트

9월: 영국이 아닌 외국에서 인터뷰 받기를 원하는 외국학생들의 지원시기

10월 중순: undergraduate 학생들 지원 마감

11월초: Medicine, Veterinary, 또는 Law 지원자들의 Test 시기

12월초: 인터뷰 시기

1월초: Offer 또는 Winter Pool 통보 시기

1월말: Winter Pool에서의 Offer 통보 시기

3월말: Offer를 받거나 거절하는 지원자의 결정시기

5~6월: A-level 또는 STEP 시험기간

8월: 시험결과 발표 및 합격 여부 통보

10월초: 학기 시작

5. 칼리지 고르기

케임브리지에는 모두 29개의 칼리지들이 있고 각 칼리지들은 각각 고유의 역사와 서로 다른 특성들을 지니고 있다. 그 중 mature student(만21세 이상)만 받는 곳은 세 곳 (Lucy Cavendish, Hughes Hall, St Edmunds, Wolfson)과 여자만 받는 곳은 New Hall과 Newnham이 있다.

지원할 당시 자신이 원하는 칼리지를 지정하거나 또는 대학에서 지정해주는 open application으로 할 수 있는 두 가지 옵션이 있다. 어떤 칼리지를 가나 공부하는 과정은 같으나 칼리지는 대학 3~4년 동안 생활하게 될 곳이므로 자신에게 맞고 원하는 곳으로 골라 지원하고 또 결정하기 전에 꼭 open day나 아니면 따로 시간을 내서 직접 방문해 보기를 권한다.
