Constitution

Article I. Name and Purpose

Section 1 - Name

The name of this organization shall be the Cambridge University Korean Society, also referred to as CUKS.

Section 2 - Purpose

It is the purpose and goal of CUKS to promote the education and enrichment of its members and the university community of Korean culture through involvement and participation in various social, cultural, and political activities.

Article II. Members

Section 1 - Membership Requirements

Membership shall consist of any current members of the University of Cambridge or those affiliated with the University who actively participate in CUKS events and have paid the annual dues.

Members have a right to be present at any general meeting of the Society and a right to vote. Dues shall be collected at the beginning of each academic year at the first General Meeting and thereafter by the Treasurer. The amount shall be set and subject to change by the Executive Board each year.

Section 2 - Non-Discriminatory Policy

Even though the Society members are primarily composed of peoples of Korean descent, this organization and its members shall not discriminate against any individual(s) for reasons of race, colour, creed, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, sex, age, or handicap.

Article III. Elections

Section 1 - Voting

Only members shall be able to vote and each member shall have one vote.

There shall be no absentee voting.

Section 2 - Nominations and Qualifications

Candidates for offices must be current members of CUKS.

Nominations may be made in written form, specifying name of nominee and nominating position, or verbally when nominations are taken at the annual election of officers.

Section 3 - Elections

Elections are for all executive offices.

Elections shall be held once a year.

Elections shall take place at the beginning of the academic year.

Elections shall be held by secret ballot.

Simple majority (>50%) wins for all contested offices, and a revote will be taken if no candidate wins majority.

Section 4 - Term of Office

Terms of office for all positions shall begin commence immediately after a new board has been elected.

Terms of office shall last for one year.

Article IV. Amendments

This Constitution is binding to all members of the Cambridge University Korean Society, but the constitution is not binding unto itself.

Amendments to the constitution may be proposed in writing by any voting member of CUKS at any meeting at which two-thirds of the voting members are present. These amendments will be placed on the agenda for the next regular meeting of the executive council or other officer grouping.
