CUKS (academic/social) Events

Freshers¡¯ Welcoming Party

The current members would like to warmly welcome all freshers and newcomers to the Cambridge University this year. You will be welcomed, loved and entertained while you entertain us! This will be a great opportunity to socialize with other Koreans at the University - old & new. This year we are planning to make it grand and special, so it is really not to be missed!

CUKS Seminar

CUKS is delighted to announce that Graduates Talks are to be organized for the first time. The Graduate Talks are a sort of academic seminar given by guest speakers or graduate members of the society, and will cover many interesting current social issues such as FTA and stem cell research. Hope many of you come along to listen and share your opinions while you enjoy the fun afterwards.

Annual Korean Film Night

To make Korea and Korean culture known to others in Cambridge, CUKS is throwing a Korean Movie Night, where anyone can come (for free!), watch a movie and socialize. The meticulously selected movie will not disappoint any of you (please trust the taste of committee members!), and we hope many international students come along to enjoy it!

Game Night

Everyone needs some time to chill out (although some of us chill out too often), and we bet you will have much fun at the CUKS Game Night. Many board games including our favorite monopoly as well as some traditional Korean games such as Yut-Game and Wha-Too will be waiting for you! Feel free to bring along any game sets if you have any!

Korean Music Night

With resounding success from last year, you will be impressed by the musical talents the members of CUKS may have. Someone you didn¡¯t think will make a vocal in a band will astonish you! This year we plan to invite some guest musicians and expand the diversity to Korean traditional music if possible. Do expect the unexpected!

Oxbridge Sports Day

The Oxbridge Sports Day is the day when gentlemen play football and ladies play Bal-Ya-Goo against our dear Oxford counterparts. Although we love Oxford people, we are inevitably (and unfortunately) in a position to fight against them and keep the Cambridge reputation going in eternity. This year is our turn to visit Oxford, and the matches are usually followed by social events afterwards. This traditionally takes place in the beginning of Easter Term, and we may hire a coach to transport ourselves there.

CUKS Annual Dinner

All current members of CUKS are invited to a formal dinner, which you will have to book your ticket ahead. Last year we had one at the Wordsworth Room, St. John¡¯s College served with a five course meal. With everyone in suits and dresses, it's a great time to meet and chat in a 'formal' but informal atmosphere and a great time to practise your poses with lots of pictures sure to be taken. The after-stories and banter will be something to be remembered throughout the year.

Annual General Meeting and Elections

Secretary and treasurer annual reports will be circulated ahead of AGM, and some constitutional and administrative matters are to be discussed. Nominations for positions of president, vice-president, treasurer, general secretary, secretary, and sports officer are open to any members of the society and subsequent election is to be followed. It is an important meeting for the future of CUKS, so please come along and have your vote.
